These examples show companies and the NHS working together to transform services, for example by reducing the amount of time people have to spend in hospital, or preventing people having to go to hospital at all. This is better for the patient, and frees up staff time.

Glaucoma services: identifying priority patients
Abbvie and University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust worked together on a new tool to identify priority glaucoma patients. The Glauc-Strat-Fast tool has helped improve patient care, reduced unnecessary visits to hospital, and been endorsed by the Professional Standards Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Improving support for patients with cardiovascular disease
Working with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Boehringer Ingelheim UKIE established a new innovative cardiometabolic clinic. It helped empower patients to better manage their condition, freeing up consultant time to manage more complex patients.


Inhaler recycling scheme reduces waste and carbon emissions
Take AIR (Action for Inhaler Recycling) is a Chiesi Ltd funded scheme supported by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) and Leicestershire and Rutland Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC).
After two years of the scheme, more than 52,000 inhalers were returned, saving an estimated 305 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Test and treat pathways in drug treatment services and prisons
Gilead worked with the NHS and charity Change Grow Live (CGL) to improve testing treatment for Hep C patients in drug treatment services. The project resulted in a 36% increase in Hep C testing, a 45% increase in referrals, and reduced phlebotomy waiting times.


Addressing regional variation in CAR T patient treatment
Gilead are concerned that patients in certain areas of the country appear to face challenges in access to CAR T therapies.
